Online leisure travel spending to double
Forrester Research estimates that online leisure travel spending in the US will total USD22.7 billion in 2002.
The research company forecasts that online leisure travel spending will rise dramatically from 2002 to 2007.
An estimated 34.3 million households in the US will book online by 2007, bringing online leisure travel revenues to USD50 billion.
Airline tickets will account for the bulk of online leisure travel sales with airline ticket revenues rising from USD12.8 billion in 2002 to USD27.8 billion in 2007.
Revenues from lodging will rise from USD6.9 billion to USD16.7 billion over the same time period, while online rental card sales will grow from USD2 billion to USD3.7 billion.
Online sales of vacation packages, cruises and Intercity rail are also forecast to rise from 2002 to 2007, according to Forrester Research.
