Adobe User Group meeting: Young Talent
Onlangs vond de 14e meeting van de Adobe User Group plaats in Pakhuis de Zwijger te Amsterdam. Thema van de bijeenkomst was Young Talent: zowel talent onder studenten of young professionals in de creatieve industrie. De line-up aan sprekers voor de meeting was in samenwerking met online magazine Fontanel samengesteld, waaronder jonge sprekers als Lowman, De Monsters, Jordi Romkema (MTV) maar ook een oude rot: Marcel Kampman (KABK). Ondanks de reeds aangebroken vakantieperiode waren er evengoed rond de 150 bezoekers aanwezig.
De bijeenkomst draaide om jonge designers, marketeers, developers, fotografen en andere creatieve talenten. Ze lieten hun werk laten zien en vertelden daarover, gingen in op de kansen die ze wel of niet hebben gekregen in de industrie en vertelden hoe ze aankijken tegen de aansluiting van hun opleiding bij de praktijk. Maar je kunt geen jonge honden hebben zonder inspirerende ouwe rotten. Marcel Kampman vertelde daarom over zijn ervaringen en hoe een gelegenheidsproject leidde tot een compleet nieuwe studie op de Koninklijke Academie van de Kunsten. De meeting werd beëindigd met een seizoensafsluitende barbecue.
Tijdens de intro door twee bestuursleden van de Adobe User Group, Bert Hagendoorn en Niels de Keizer, werd ingegaan op de groei tot meer dan 2300 creatieve professionals, die inmiddels lid van de vereniging zijn geworden. Online magazine Fontanel sloot aan door te vertellen over hoe ze geholpen hadden het programma voor deze dag samen te stellen. De sessie van Fontanel werd opgevolgd door die van Lowman, een designer met voorliefde voor typografie. Hij vertelde over zijn eerste ervaringen met internet, zijn opleiding en zijn onderzoek naar lettertypes – en liet daarbij veel eigen werk zien. Vervolgens was het het de beurt aan Jordi Romkema, senior designer digital media bij MTV Networks. Jordi ging in op verschillende projecten, zoals de TMF videoplayer en het succesvolle Spongebob project voor waar hij aan gewerkt heeft. Jasper Schelling van Media Catalyst was de laatste spreker voor de pauze, die een aantal projecten liet zijn en iets vertelde over zijn rol binnen het onderwijs.
Na de pauze was de beurt aan student Stan Smulders, die stage had gelopen bij motion graphics bureau Addikt. Stan liet in chronologische volgorde projecten zien, waar ook duidelijk zijn groei als motion designer in zichtbaar was. In het Power Hour dat volgde kregen 3 sprekers elk 20 minuten de tijd om te vertellen over hun projecten en kunnen: Lemmy-Boy, De Monsters, Rory Parks (Swurdin.net)). De laatste sessie was aan Marcel Kampman (Koninklijke Academie Beeldende Kunsten), die na een korte introductie van zichzelf de creatieve broedplaats genaamd Texelse Boys showde. Als het aan hem – en het publiek – had gelegen, had hij nog wel uren door had kunnen gaan (zowel qua materiaal als inspiratie).
